US Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth declared that the United States possesses ample weapons and military resources to mount a renewed campaign against Iran if circumstances demand it.
Speaking in measured tones at the Shangri‑La Defense Summit in Singapore, Hegseth said America’s weapons stockpiles are well stocked and sufficient to support any conceivable operation.
His remarks came as negotiations aimed at ending hostilities between the United States and Iran remain unresolved. President Donald Trump has asserted that a peace deal with Iran is close, but Iranian officials have not confirmed any such agreement.
Hegseth also voiced concern about China’s growing military power, saying there are legitimate worries about Beijing’s defense expansion and activities in the region. He emphasized that the United States does not seek unnecessary confrontation, but wants to preserve a balance of power in Asia so no single country — including China — can impose its hegemony.
The secretary expressed a desire for bilateral relations with Beijing grounded in respect and good faith, and clarified there has been no change in U.S. policy toward Taiwan. He added that future decisions on arms sales will be made at the discretion of the U.S. President.
