Presidential election, nomination papers of Asif Zardari and Mahmood Khan Achakzai submitted

Former President Asif Ali Zardari and the head of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, filed their nomination documents on Saturday for the presidency.

Zardari represents a coalition of the PPP and PML-N, and Achakzai is the nominee from the Sunni Ittehad Council.

On a social media post, Ali Muhammad Khan of the PTI confirmed these events, stating that nominating a candidate from the less privileged province of Balochistan sends a powerful message of national unity, as advocated by PTI’s founder Imran Khan.

The presidential elections are scheduled for March 9, and the examination of the nomination papers is set for March 4, which is a Monday.

Members of the Senate, National Assembly, and the four provincial assemblies, which make up the electoral college, elect the president.

The voting process will be confidential.

In related news, the Election Commission of Pakistan appointed five presiding officers last Thursday to oversee the presidential election in Islamabad and the four provincial capitals.
