Sadiq Khan Re-elected Mayor of London

Sadiq Khan, the two-term center-left mayor of London, won his third term on Saturday by a significant margin, marking another loss for Britain’s ruling Conservative Party as a national election approaches.

Elected first in 2016 and known as London’s initial Muslim mayor, Mr. Khan has set a record by becoming the first to win three sequential terms since the mayor’s role was established in 2000.

With the Labour Party leading in opinion polls before the upcoming general election, expectations were high for Mr. Khan to achieve an easy win in London, a city with a leftist inclination. Despite speculations of a close contest with Conservative candidate Susan Hall, the anticipated tight race dissolved on Saturday. Mr. Khan secured his triumph with over one million votes, representing 43 percent of the total, while Ms. Hall received around 32 percent.
