Maryam Nawaz elected as new CM Punjab

Maryam Nawaz, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has secured the position as the new Chief Minister of Punjab with 220 votes.

Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan received no votes.

Details reveal that Maryam Nawaz is the first female Chief Minister of Punjab, and she is the pioneer woman to serve in such a capacity in any province in Pakistan’s history.

The vote count for the remaining members is still ongoing.

The Chief Minister election saw Maryam Nawaz of PML-N competing against Rana Aftab Ahmed of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

It’s worth mentioning that the Punjab Assembly convened early today to carry out the Chief Minister election. The SIC members opted to walk out and abstained from voting. Despite their absence, the newly elected speaker, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, proceeded with the election process.
