Karachi,the mega city of Pakistan, has been victim to over 50,000 incidents of street crime over the past eight months. It is pertinent to mention that this is only the number of crimes that were reported in the city during the first 8 months of 2021.
According to police department, the highest number of street crime incidents involved motorcycle snatching, and the second-highest were of mobile snatching and four-wheeler snatching.
During eight months of 2021, 34,181 motorcycles, 14,578 mobile phones, and 1,268 four-wheelers were snatched.
The officials said that 54 people lost their lives while 458 people sustained injuries during the street crime incidents in the city.
Previously, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah was told during a law and order meeting that street crimes have seen a 30 per cent decline in August.
