State must protect citizens from harmful social media effects: COAS Asim Munir

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir on Wednesday reassured young Pakistanis that the country’s future was in ‘safe hands’.

Addressing the grand concluding session of the vibrant two-day National Youth Convention in Islamabad, he passionately emphasised the crucial importance of unity, robust education, and unwavering resilience in the face of numerous challenges.

The army chief eloquently highlighted the profound significance of understanding the true value of an independent state, urging the youth to draw lessons from the arduous struggles of people in Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza. He underscored that the state bears the solemn responsibility of shielding its citizens from the detrimental effects of social media.

Touching upon the country’s economic situation, the COAS provocatively asked: “Where are those who had predicted that Pakistan will default?” He inspired the youth to maintain a spirit of optimism, reminding them that, as Muslims, despair is forbidden.

He earnestly emphasised the unparalleled importance of the youth as Pakistan’s most precious asset, vowing to protect them from any harm. He stressed the necessity for a strong, unbreakable bond between the people, government, and the army, asserting that this unity was pivotal for the country’s security and progress.

Addressing the recent unrest in Parachinar, the COAS firmly stated that the army was committed to assisting the tribes in resolving their disputes through peaceful dialogue and reconciliation.

He lauded the resilient people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their steadfast support in the relentless fight against terrorism, likening them to a formidable iron wall that has stood alongside the army for the past 22 years.

Gen Munir concluded his stirring address with a galvanizing message of hope and faith, expressing his unwavering belief that Allah will bestow victory upon Pakistan in its battle against terrorism.
