Pakistan’s security forces foiled a brazen militant assault on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi, the military said on Saturday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), militants from Jamaat-ul-Ahrar — described by authorities as an India-backed proxy group — detonated explosives at the camp’s main entrance late Saturday night in a violent bid to breach the perimeter.
Rangers personnel responded swiftly and decisively, preventing the attackers from entering the facility. During the ensuing exchange of fire, three militants were killed.
The ISPR said one injured Afghan national suspected of involvement was detained at the scene. Tragically, three Rangers personnel were martyred in the line of duty and four others were wounded while repelling the assault. A clearance operation is continuing in the surrounding area to ensure no other militants remain at large.
The military affirmed that Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam strategy will proceed with full force and that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the Rangers for thwarting what he described as the designs of India-backed militants, commending their professionalism, courage and dedication. Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen and paid tribute to their sacrifice. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, calling the slain Rangers national heroes whose sacrifice will strengthen the country’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.
