U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has been lifted, and our ships can now begin the process of returning home.
Speaking from the White House, President Trump declared that Iran must agree never to possess nuclear weapons or atomic bombs, and he demanded that the Strait of Hormuz be opened immediately.
He said that so‑called Iranian “nuclear dust” is buried deep beneath nearly collapsed mountain formations — the remnants of enriched uranium destroyed by our B-2 bomber strike eleven months ago. The President stated that the United States will remove this contaminated material from the ground.
He added that there is agreement that both China and the United States have the technical capability required, and that the work will be carried out in cooperation and coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency; the contaminated material will be retrieved and then destroyed.
President Trump noted that several other, relatively minor issues have also been resolved. He said he is convening in the Situation Room to make a final decision. Any underwater mines in the Strait of Hormuz, if present, will be removed. We have already destroyed several tunnels with controlled detonations using underwater minesweepers, and Iran will immediately remove or demolish the remaining tunnels.
Finally, the President emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz must be opened to maritime traffic without tolls and that any naval mines in the strait will be cleared.
