Being targeted for being Pakistani and Muslim, Mayor of London

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan says he’s being targeted with a racist campaign because of his Pakistani heritage and Muslim faith.

In a discussion with reporters, he expressed concern that voters are being intimidated by being labeled as Muslims and Pakistanis.

Khan, speaking to delegates at the London Labour Conference, said: “A week on from the racist, anti-Muslim and Islamophobic remarks made by a senior Tory member of parliament, and the complete failure of Rishi Sunak even as he stood outside Number 10, or anyone around him to condemn them for what they are, it’s important to say a few words about the level of debate in public life.

“What we’re witnessing is a concerted and growing attempt by some to degrade and humiliate minorities for political and electoral gain.”

Mr Khan said that “as the poison of antisemitism and the poison of Islamophobia continues to infect our politics, now, more than ever, we need to display our best values rather than our worst fears”.

He also said that diversity is London’s “biggest strength”.

Mayor Khan revealed that established political figures are orchestrating the campaign against him, attempting to instill fear in non-Muslims about Muslims through the use of propaganda.

He proudly stated that despite these challenges, he has successfully reduced crime rates in London, and emphasized the country’s need for a Labour government.

Earlier Britain’s Conservative Party suspended one of its lawmakers, Lee Anderson after he said the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was under the control of Islamists.

“Following his refusal to apologise for comments made yesterday, the Chief Whip has suspended the Conservative whip from Lee Anderson MP,” a spokesperson for Simon Hart, the government minister in charge of party discipline, said.

Anderson, a former Conservative Party vice chairman, said he understood the decision to suspend him.

“I will continue to support the government’s efforts to call out extremism in all its forms – be that antisemitism or Islamophobia,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
