Shehbaz Sharif takes oath of PM’s office

On Sunday, Shehbaz Sharif easily secured a majority in the new parliament despite opposition chants.

Shehbaz, the unified choice of the PML-N and PPP, garnered 201 votes in the 336-member parliament. His opponent, Omar Ayub Khan from SIC-PTI, received 92 votes.Along with the PPP, supportive parties included the MQM-P, PML(Q), Balochistan Awami Party, PML(Z), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, and the National Party.

When Speaker Ayaz Sadiq declared the results, Nawaz Sharif, the ex-prime minister and Shehbaz’s older brother, offered congratulations. Subsequently, Khawaja Asif and PPP’s Asif Zardari embraced him.

In his speech to the House, Shehbaz expressed gratitude to his brother for the prime ministerial nomination.

He stated that Pakistan made significant advancements under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, whom he called the nation’s architect for ending power outages and transforming Pakistan into a nuclear state.

He also acknowledged Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for their contributions to the nation, noting that Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for democracy, law, and justice.
