According to an insightful report by The New York Times, Pakistan might soon be assigned to the ‘Orange Category’ in the new US travel restrictions list.
This development implies that while Pakistani nationals will not be subjected to a total travel ban, they could face more rigorous scrutiny when applying for US visas.
The report hints at the possibility of limitations on specific visa types for Pakistani citizens, with the exception of those traveling for business purposes, which will remain allowed under this new classification.
Other countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Lebanon, are likely to face a complete travel ban. Meanwhile, nations such as Libya, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen are also at risk of being added to this restricted category. These proposed changes herald a shift in US immigration and travel policies, which could potentially impact thousands of Pakistanis aspiring to enter the United States.
