Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz has replied to criticism over showbiz earnings after a social media user questioned whether such income is halal or haram.
Known for speaking out on social issues, he said people should look at their own behaviour and mindset before blaming others.
In a YouTube video message sent by a friend, Nauman Ijaz talked about halal and haram and how people understand morality. He noted that while people can distinguish many physical differences—like hot versus cold or bitter versus sweet—the line between lawful and unlawful depends on human conscience, understanding, and personal choice.
He asked why, if people are aware of right and wrong, they still do things they consider improper, arguing the problem is in personal choices, not in awareness.
Following his comments, a social media user asked whether income from the entertainment industry could be halal or haram.
Nauman Ijaz responded that the question reflected a ‘particular mindset’ and told the user to stay happy while also engaging in self-reflection.
His comments reignited debate on social media about the ethics and religious permissibility of showbiz earnings. Some users defended his view, arguing against blanket judgments about any profession, while others continued the debate on the issue.
Nauman Ijaz remains a leading Pakistani television actor, well known for his roles in critically acclaimed drama series.
