Islamabad United lifts PSL 9 trophy after winning a last-ball thriller against Multan Sultans.

Islamabad United have been crowned the champions of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9, beating Multan Sultans by 2 wickets in the National Bank Stadium, Karachi on Monday.

Islamabad United triumphed over Multan Sultans by two wickets in a last-ball thriller of the final, marking the season’s eighth nail-biter.

Securing the PSL 9 title, Islamabad United also became the inaugural team to claim a third PSL championship, maintaining a perfect record in finals. They previously secured titles in 2016 and 2018.

Team captain Shadab Khan significantly contributed to United’s victory with his stellar all-around abilities. He amassed 305 runs at an average of 43.42 and captured 14 wickets throughout PSL 9, earning him the Player of the Tournament accolade.

However, Imad Wasim’s exceptional performance in critical games towards the tournament’s end stood out.

Recognized for his left-arm spin and adept lower-order batting, Imad displayed his skills by becoming the first to take a five-wicket haul in a PSL final. His notable performance began by removing both Yasir Khan and David Willey in his opening over and continued as he took the wickets of Khushdil Shah, Johnson Charles, and Chris Jordan.

In batting, Imad’s judicious 19-run innings steered his team to victory.

For his outstanding all-round display, he was honored with the Player of the Match award.

This performance isn’t the first time the left-handed all-rounder has stepped up when his team needed him most. In a critical match for playoff qualification, Imad hit an undefeated 30 off just 13 balls against Multan Sultan, leading his team to chase a daunting 229-run target.
