Australian universities cancel offers of enrollment to international students

Eight Australian universities, including public and private institutions, have withdrawn admission offers to international students due to the government’s stricter student visa policies aimed at curbing immigration.

The universities involved are Western Sydney University, Macquarie, Wollongong, Latrobe, Deakin, Central Queensland, Edith Cowan, and Kaplan Business School (KBS). They have all sent out recent notices either canceling admissions or asking for applications to be withdrawn, affecting international students and their recruitment agents.

These institutions have assured that they will refund any fees paid by the affected applicants.

You recently got an email from the University of Wollongong [UOW], detailing that you have been granted a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) to start your studies in the Autumn 2024 session, but still haven’t obtained a visa. To help you achieve the best possible result for your future, you were offered the choice to either withdraw your application and get a refund, or to defer your offer,” reads an email from the University of Wollongong to an applicant.

“Regrettably, the Australian Government has introduced major changes to its migration policy. Considering these changes, the fast-approaching start date of your desired intake, and the fact that you have not yet received a visa decision, UOW believes it is improbable you will meet the new requirements for a favorable visa outcome.
