PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur elected KPK chief minister

The newly-elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly chose Ali Amin Gandapur of Pakistan Teheek-e-Insaf (PTI) as the chief minister of the province on Friday.

PTI had proposed Gandapur for this prestigious position in opposition to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s nominee, Ibadullah Khan.

Gandapur was victorious with a total of 90 votes, surpassing Ibadullah’s 16.

In his address, the freshly appointed CM set a one-week deadline to dismiss the first information reports (FIRs) filed against PTI members.

He expressed his concern over the ‘injustice and cruelty’ faced by Imran and other supporters of the party.

‘Be prepared for consequences if the FIRs are not withdrawn,’ he warned.

Gandapur, a former federal minister, is currently both a Member National Assembly (MNA) and an elected member of the Provincial Assembly in the general elections of 2024.

Earlier in February, Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, had selected the senior party figure for the CM role.

The PTI stalwart faces multiple allegations of assault and corruption as filed by police in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, according to reports.

On February 19, Gandapur highlighted during an informal discussion with local reporters that his primary focus would be on the mineral industry while also acknowledging the significant role of tourism.

He declared, ‘We will exercise all the powers that the 18th Amendment has granted us.’

Gandapur emphasized that the PTI’s provincial administration would push for the rights of the local people.

‘We’re not pleading; we’re simply demanding what is rightfully ours,’ he stated, ‘and we’re ready to undertake a long march if needed to achieve this.’
