Hamas confirms death of leader Yahya Sinwar in Israeli military strike
On Friday, the Palestinian organization Hamas solemnly confirmed that their revered leader, Yahya Sinwar, had been slain by the Israeli military in Gaza, a mere day after Israel announced his tragic demise.
“We mourn the great leader, the martyred brother, Yahya Sinwar, Abu Ibrahim,” declared Khalil al-Hayya, a Hamas official based in Qatar, in a poignant video message that was broadcast across Al Jazeera.
Sinwar emerged as Israel’s most wanted individual following the harrowing attack on October 7, 2023, the most lethal assault in Israeli history.
Khalil Hayya further emphasized that captives held in Gaza will remain until Israel halts its aggressive actions and retracts its forces from the beleaguered enclave.
In a heartfelt televised address, Khalil Hayya spoke of “the memory of the fallen martyr, Yahya Sinwar,” describing him as “steadfast, brave, and intrepid.” Hayya extolled, saying that Sinwar “sacrificed his life for the cause of our liberation.”
