Security forces have killed the region’s most wanted militant commander, Umar, alias Jan Mir, along with four associates during an intelligence-led raid in Spinwam, North Waziristan.
According to sources, a Rs 3 million bounty had been placed on Umar; the strike followed careful surveillance and precise action to dismantle his network.
Officials say Umar was the architect behind a series of ruthless attacks on both security forces and civilians. He had dug hidden bunkers, carved tunnel routes and planted booby traps and explosives around the Bobali Mosque area to shield his operations.
Experts believe removing this key figure will help restore peace and deliver a major setback to the ‘Fitanah-ul-Khawarij’ terrorist network.
The mission continues as part of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, the ongoing national counterterrorism effort.
