At least eight people have died in Karachi from suspected drug overdoses and the ongoing spell of extreme heat, rescue officials confirmed on Monday.
Rescue sources said three people died from excessive drug use, while four others died while receiving treatment at medical facilities across the city.
The report added that one person died because of the intense heat as temperatures continue to soar in Karachi. Authorities also recovered three bodies from Manghopir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Defence Phase 8.
Three more deaths were recorded during treatment in Clifton, Liaquatabad and along the Super Highway.
Separately, a body was found near Tayyaba Mosque on SPARCO Road in Baldia Town; eyewitnesses said the person likely died due to the heatwave affecting the city.
Officials urged residents to be cautious, avoid substance abuse, and take precautions during extreme weather, including staying hydrated and limiting time outdoors.
