Pakistan’s IT sector has hit a record-breaking $4.6 billion in export earnings this fiscal year, showing its growing significance to the national economy.
According to data from the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, IT exports grew by 21% compared to the last fiscal year, while the sector secured an 85% trade surplus.
Growth Drivers
The ministry linked this achievement to supportive government policies, ongoing assistance for the tech sector, and PM Shehbaz Sharif’s focus on digital market expansion. The IT industry is now Pakistan’s fastest-growing export sector, boosted by efforts to improve competitiveness and create opportunities for local tech companies.
Global Expansion
The government backed Pakistan’s presence in over 20 international tech expos last year, letting more than 250 local IT firms and startups showcase their work to global investors. Industry representatives also joined the PM on official trips abroad to help businesses find new markets and partnerships.
Skills and Incentives
To develop the country’s digital workforce, over 100,000 young people were trained in modern IT skills. The government also maintained key incentives for exporters, including the final tax regime and a 0.25% export tax facility, to sustain the sector’s growth.
