Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has vehemently denounced the Houthi assault on a commercial ship in the Red Sea.
The attack struck the Tanzania-flagged vessel Tihamah, resulting in fatalities and injuries among its crew. An Indonesian national also lost their life in this incident.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reported that three Pakistani citizens were killed and one was injured during the attack. He extended his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased Pakistanis.
Dar emphasized that Pakistan categorically condemns Houthi assaults on non-combatant commercial vessels, noting that such actions jeopardize innocent lives, breach international law, and represent a significant threat to navigation freedom, maritime security, and the safety of commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
He mentioned that Pakistan is in communication with the relevant Saudi authorities and Yemen’s internationally recognized government to gather more information about the incident and its circumstances.
Dar instructed the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh to promptly coordinate with the appropriate authorities and vigorously pursue all necessary actions for the recovery and repatriation of the remains of the deceased Pakistani nationals. He also directed the embassy to extend all possible support to the injured Pakistani national.
Dar stated that Pakistan is monitoring the situation closely and will maintain ongoing communication with the relevant authorities.
Yesterday, sources from the Yemeni government and coast guard reported that the Houthis had attacked a cargo vessel near Bab al-Mandab in the Red Sea. The assault targeted the vessel’s deck, resulting in the deaths of three crew members.
