Renowned economist Dr. Qaiser Bengali has resigned from three top government committees, namely the austerity committee, the right-sizing committee, and the committee to control government expenses. He has expressed grave concerns that the Pakistani economy is hurtling towards disaster.
In his detailed three-page resignation letter addressed to Finance Minister M. Aurangzeb and Cabinet Secretary Kamran Afzal, Dr. Bengali lamented that none of his recommendations were heeded by the government. Instead, the actions taken were completely contrary to the committee’s objectives. He acknowledged, however, that the decision to form these committees was a step in the right direction.
