Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, has been taken into custody by Lahore police under the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) provision, as reported by family members.
According to family sources, Aleema Khan was apprehended during her journey to Gymkhana accompanied by her driver. Officers from Lytton Road Police Station placed her under arrest, and her vehicle was subsequently parked at the police station premises.
Family sources indicated that police obtained a detention order under 3-MPO from the deputy commissioner before executing the arrest. Following her detention, Aleema Khan was transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The PTI Central Punjab spokesperson issued a strong statement condemning Aleema Khan’s arrest. Brigadier (retd) Mushtaq denounced the detention and stated that she had been moved to an undisclosed location.
Mushtaq contended that the government feared what he characterized as a grassroots movement. He also asserted that numerous PTI members were facing arrests in an extensive operation.
The PTI Central Punjab spokesperson reiterated the party’s opposition to Aleema Khan’s detention, describing it as part of a broader campaign targeting party members.
In related developments, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has scheduled a demonstration and march to Islamabad for September 27, with plans to mobilize activists from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The party had previously announced this protest, with Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stating that PTI would travel to Islamabad to assert its rights and ensure compliance with judicial orders.
Gohar emphasized that the demonstration would remain nonviolent and would be directed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. He clarified that PTI’s intention was not to “seize control of Islamabad” but to defend its rights, and the party would refrain from utilizing government or provincial assets or attempting to breach the gates of Adiala Jail.
Preparations for the September 27 mobilisation have continued amid legal proceedings and government warnings. The Islamabad High Court has ruled that no political party or public office-holder has the authority to block roads in Islamabad.
The IHC has also issued directions concerning the planned march, while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned that the government will stop any attempt to enter Islamabad in violation of the court’s order.
