The federal government on Friday announced a sharp increase in fuel prices, raising the price of petrol by Rs14.92 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs15 for the coming week, citing the fuel crisis triggered by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz amid the conflict between the United States and Iran.
According to a press release from the Petroleum Division, the revised retail price of petrol will be Rs414.78 per litre, while HSD will be Rs414.58 per litre.
The new rates will take effect from Friday at midnight.
This marks the second consecutive weekly increase since April 30, when petrol rose by Rs6.51 per litre and HSD by Rs19.39, as authorities contend with persistent supply disruptions caused by the Strait of Hormuz blockade.
