General Aamer Raza met with Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday, as reported by the military’s media wing.
In a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), it was noted that the field marshal congratulated the general officer on taking command.
General Raza has been elevated to the rank of four-star general and appointed as the Commander of the National Strategic Command (CNSC), following an announcement made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that the premier extended his congratulations to the newly promoted general and expressed his best wishes for him in “undertaking this important responsibility.”
The ISPR further mentioned that General Raza received a guard of honour upon his arrival at GHQ for his new role as CNSC.
Additionally, the general paid tribute by laying a floral wreath at Yadgar-i-Shuhada and offered prayers for the martyrs.
General Raza has previously been honored with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-i-Basalat (Star of Valour).
The CNSC position was established under the 27th Constitutional Amendment enacted last year, which introduced significant modifications to the military’s chain of command, taking over the nuclear management responsibilities that were previously held by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), a position that has since been abolished.
