An Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad has renewed arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and additional individuals connected to the November 26 protest case. Judge Tahir Abbas Supra instructed law enforcement to file the challan without delay and postponed the proceedings to October 9.
The case stems from the PTI demonstration held in Islamabad on November 26. The government implemented several strategies to de-escalate the protest, including dialogue with organizers, proposing an alternative demonstration location, and establishing security restrictions and traffic blockades. PTI officials, however, contended that these measures were designed to prevent the march from entering Islamabad and diminish the protest’s impact.
The government asserted that the measures were essential for preserving public order and safeguarding critical infrastructure, whereas PTI contested the government’s version of the circumstances. The November 26 demonstration subsequently resulted in numerous legal proceedings initiated against PTI leadership and members.
