Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi departed for Tehran on Saturday, carrying what an informed source described as a significant and sensitive message from Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.
IRNA quoted Naqvi as saying he came to Tehran to deliver a special communique from Pakistan’s political and military leadership amid renewed diplomatic overtures between Tehran and Washington.
After talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, Naqvi described the dispatch as important and expressed hope that regional crises could be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
Momeni thanked Pakistan for its active role in de‑escalation efforts between Iran and the United States. The two ministers discussed concrete areas of cooperation — border security, counterterrorism, joint anti‑narcotics operations and strengthening bilateral economic ties — and agreed to pursue a plan to raise annual trade from roughly $3 billion to $10 billion.
Describing relations between the neighbouring countries as brotherly, Naqvi voiced optimism that current tensions in the region would soon be eased.
