Beijing warned that the Strait of Hormuz could remain a zone of heightened risk unless the Iran–Iraq war is brought to an immediate halt.
In a grave phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi painted a stark picture: the conflict’s spread has sent shockwaves across the region, putting the critical shipping lane in peril. ‘Until hostilities cease, passage through the Strait will not be restored,’ Wang said, urging swift action to stop the fighting.
Wang repeated the appeal in a separate call with the European Union’s top diplomat, calling for strengthened consensus, renewed diplomacy, and urgent steps by all parties to secure a prompt ceasefire and restore safe navigation.
