
Washington: US President Donald Trump convened with leaders of Islamic nations in New York. This significant meeting spanned approximately 50 minutes, delving deeply into the nuanced situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the tensions in Gaza.
Attendees included Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and influential leaders from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Indonesia.
After the meeting, although US President Donald Trump and the Muslim leaders left the venue without making any statements, President Trump later addressed the media. He characterized the dialogue with the Muslim leaders as exceptionally successful and commendable. President Trump remarked that the discussions were productive, noting the collaboration with prominent figures on the issue of Gaza.
President Trump mentioned that, aside from Israel, the talks with all major players were fruitful, and he plans to engage with the Israeli leader soon, hopeful for potential actionable steps regarding Gaza.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan echoed similar sentiments, describing the meeting as significantly productive.
During the meeting’s outset, US President Trump declared a resolute intent to cease the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He emphasized that this meeting was of paramount importance to him, as it aimed to resolve something they had not initiated.
Before meeting Muslim leaders, the US President said in his address to the United Nations General Assembly that some countries are recognizing the Palestinian state, but recognizing the Palestinian state would be tantamount to rewarding Hamas for its atrocities.
The US President added that he wants a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of the hostages, and also wants the bodies of the 38 hostages from Hamas.
President Trump claimed in his address that Hamas rejected the peace offer, and those who want peace should try to release the hostages.
It is pertinent to note that regarding the meeting between the US President and the heads of Muslim leaders, the US media claimed in its report that the US wants Arab and Muslim countries to send troops to Gaza so that Israel can withdraw.
The report stated that the US also wants Arab and Muslim countries to provide funds for the transfer of power and reconstruction work in Palestine.
