Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, appealed to Trump to push back his deadline for an Iran deal by two weeks and requested that Iran open the Strait of Hormuz during that time, arguing that current diplomatic efforts are promising and should run their course.
In a post on the social media platform X, PM Shehbaz wrote that diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful settlement of the war in the Middle East are advancing steadily and could lead to substantive results in the near future.
Shehbaz Sharif said “To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks.”
PM Shehbaz also called on Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz for the same two weeks “as a goodwill gesture”.
“We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region,” he added
