In a grand event reported by state-run media, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari bestowed prestigious awards on 104 distinguished individuals, including both Pakistanis and foreigners, on Wednesday.
The accolades recognized luminaries from various domains like science, education, medicine, and the arts. Notable recipients included the Kingdom’s Commerce Minister, Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi. These honors, declared during Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, are set for presentation at an investiture ceremony on March 23, 2025, coinciding with Pakistan Day.
Reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), President Zardari commemorated these individuals for their excellence, dedication, and service. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the director-general of the UAE’s aviation authority, was awarded the Hilal-i-Quaid-e-Azam, while Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi received the Sitara-i-Pakistan. Saudi Minister for Communications Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha was similarly honored with the Sitara-i-Pakistan as well.
The awards underscore the significant contributions of these individuals, including the highest civilian award, the Nishan-i-Pakistan, conferred on Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, former prime minister and founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, a gold medal victor at the Paris Olympics 2024, received the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, whilst the late mountaineer Murad Sadpara, who tragically perished descending Broad Peak, was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
