The Foreign Office announced that Lieutenant General (retd) Nauman Mahmood has been designated as the inaugural Secretary General of the alliance formed through the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
Pursuant to a statement released by the Foreign Office spokesperson, Mahmood will direct the General Secretariat of the alliance, which is being established in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Foreign Office indicated that the General Secretariat, established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, will function as the alliance’s primary administrative entity and will be overseen by the secretary general.
Mahmood’s appointment represents the establishment of the alliance’s principal administrative leadership and will entail managing the operations of its general secretariat from Riyadh.
This development comes subsequent to the recent execution of the Makkah Defence Agreement by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye.The agreement establishes a framework for defence collaboration among the three nations.
In his capacity as the alliance’s first Secretary General, Mahmood will be tasked with directing its secretariat and facilitating the execution of its institutional objectives.
