Electricity consumers throughout Pakistan are poised to encounter increased bills following the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA)’s approval of a rise in power charges through monthly and quarterly adjustments.
As per a notification released by NEPRA, the cost of electricity has been raised by Rs2.06 per unit under the monthly adjustment.
This increase will be evident in consumers’ electricity bills for September, as it pertains to the fuel price adjustment for July.
The fuel price adjustment for July alone is anticipated to impose an additional burden of Rs33 billion on electricity consumers.
In a separate decision, NEPRA has also opted to raise electricity charges by 52 paisas per unit as part of the quarterly tariff adjustment.
The regulator has communicated its decision regarding the quarterly adjustment for the period of April to June 2026 to the federal government.
This quarterly adjustment will be in effect from September to November 2026 and is projected to add an extra Rs12.67 billion burden on consumers.
Notably, the quarterly adjustment will also affect K-Electric consumers, thereby extending its influence to electricity users in Karachi.
When combined, these two adjustments signify an additional burden of around Rs45.67 billion on electricity consumers, despite their differing billing mechanisms and applicable timeframes.
These recent tariff adjustments arrive at a time when households and businesses are already grappling with the pressures of rising energy and living costs.
