On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reached an agreement to enhance Pakistan-Iran relations and broaden cooperation across various sectors during their meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
The leaders assessed the current state of bilateral relations and deliberated on the advancements made in different areas of collaboration between the neighboring nations.
During their discussion, Shehbaz and Pezeshkian reiterated their dedication to furthering bilateral ties and emphasized the importance of fully leveraging available opportunities to expand cooperation in diverse fields.
This meeting took place as Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Kyrgyzstan for a three-day visit, where he was welcomed by Kyrgyz Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev.
As per the information from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the prime minister is set to address the SCO summit on September 1, where he will articulate Islamabad’s stance on significant regional and international issues.
Additionally, Shehbaz will take part in the SCO Plus summit and will be a guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games.
The prime minister is anticipated to engage in a series of bilateral discussions with leaders attending the summit, focusing on trade, investment, bilateral relations, and broader regional cooperation.
The summit convenes leaders from several key regional powers, including China, Russia, Iran, India, and Pakistan.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at the summit places both the Pakistani and Indian prime ministers at the same international event in Bishkek this week.
On September 2, Shehbaz is scheduled for an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, where he will meet with President Sadyr Japarov to discuss various aspects of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.
Accompanying the prime minister during this visit are Federal ministers Jam Kamal Khan, Abdul Aleem Khan, and Attaullah Tarar.
