A senior-level delegation from Norway, headed by Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR indicated that the discussions centered on mutual interests, regional security, and the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Norway.
Field Marshal Asim Munir emphasized Pakistan’s viewpoint on global peace and regional stability, highlighting the necessity for collaboration and joint initiatives to tackle shared security challenges.
The Norwegian foreign minister commended the professional contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces in fostering regional peace and stability.
Both parties reiterated their dedication to enhancing bilateral relations and increasing cooperation in defense and security, according to the ISPR.
Eide arrived in Islamabad earlier on Thursday for a two-day official visit, which marks the first visit by a Norwegian foreign minister to Pakistan in a decade.
As per the Foreign Office, the two sides evaluated their bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, climate change, maritime affairs, and education. They also recognized the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Norway and agreed to strengthen people-to-people connections.
Both parties expressed contentment with the amicable relations between Pakistan and Norway and reaffirmed their commitment to broadening cooperation in areas of shared interest.
The discussions also addressed regional and international developments, with a particular emphasis on recent events in the region.
The Norwegian foreign minister acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in promoting peace during the recent Iran-US conflict, including the diplomatic initiatives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
