Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in the National Assembly on Friday at 3 p.m.
The total outlay is projected to be around Rs17.5 trillion — a substantial and carefully balanced fiscal blueprint designed to steer the economy through challenging conditions. According to sources, the government is likely to set a tax revenue target of Rs15.267 trillion. A large portion of the budget, an estimated Rs7.824 trillion, has been earmarked for debt servicing, while defence spending is expected to reach approximately Rs3 trillion.
The budget is also expected to include relief measures for government employees, with proposals under consideration to increase salaries and pensions. In addition, the government aims to raise about Rs1.727 trillion through the petroleum levy during the next fiscal year.
As part of its broader economic strategy, officials have indicated targets of $32.8 billion for exports and $70 billion for imports. Development spending will prioritise the completion of ongoing projects, with few major new schemes anticipated in this package.
Policymakers are also considering the withdrawal of tax exemptions in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), a move intended to broaden the tax base and strengthen revenue collection.
