The federal government on Thursday raised petrol prices by Rs6.51 per litre and high‑speed diesel (HSD) by Rs19.39 per litre, the Petroleum Division said in an official notification.
The new rates will take effect from May 1, 2026, the notification added.
The government has been adjusting petroleum prices on a weekly basis following the now‑paused US‑Israeli war on Iran, which began on February 28. The conflict led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow but crucial maritime artery that, in peacetime, carried roughly one‑fifth of the world’s oil and gas — triggering a global fuel crunch and heightened price volatility.
