On Wednesday, the Foreign Office announced that Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a 48-hour temporary ceasefire following recent border disputes.
The statement indicated that Pakistan’s Government and the Afghan Taliban regime have mutually decided to observe the ceasefire beginning at 6 p.m. today, upon the Taliban’s request.
During this period, both sides will put effort into resolving ongoing tensions through peaceful and constructive dialogue, added the statement.
Earlier, Pakistan’s military conducted targeted precision strikes in Afghanistan’s Kandahar and Kabul, amid increasing border tensions, state broadcaster PTV News reported on Wednesday.
PTV, quoting security sources, reported that Pakistan’s Army responded to Afghan Taliban aggression by launching retaliatory operations that destroyed key militant bases in Kandahar. Afghan Taliban Battalion No. 4 and Border Brigade No. 6 were entirely eliminated, resulting in the deaths of many foreign and Afghan fighters, the statement said.
Sources mentioned that Pakistan’s military is fully prepared to respond decisively to any external aggression. PTV confirmed additional strikes in Kabul, targeting ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ leadership, a term referring to militant groups in Balochistan.
The statement noted all locations were carefully selected, kept away from civilian areas, and were successfully destroyed.
