Sindh Minister Ghani greets KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi upon his arrival in Karachi https://newsbreaktv.com/sindh-minister-ghani-greets-kp-cm/ Fri, 09 Jan 2026 18:31:22 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10815

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi arrived in Karachi on Friday to begin a three-day visit aimed at mobilising support for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) street movement.

Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani received the KP chief minister at the airport, where the two exchanged greetings. Afridi was presented with a traditional Sindhi cap and an Ajrak as part of the welcome.

During the visit Afridi will meet party leaders, lawyers, business organisations, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and media representatives in Karachi. At Islamabad Airport members of the public took selfies with the chief minister, who was accompanied by provincial cabinet members and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s members of the National and Provincial Assemblies.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Afridi said Sindh party leadership had shared the visit schedule and called for participation in planned activities, including a rally at Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday. He announced he would hold a major public gathering at Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday at 4:30 pm, claiming it would be the largest rally in Karachi’s history, and said the visit is meant to convey party founder Imran Khan’s message and strengthen the street movement.

Afridi’s Sindh visit follows a trip to Lahore, where he was prevented from addressing supporters at Liberty Chowk after police blocked routes. He later addressed PTI lawmakers at the Punjab Assembly, where confrontations were reported between members of his entourage and security officials. During the Lahore visit he was also barred from entering the cantonment area to meet party leaders and from visiting the city’s food street, which had been closed ahead of his arrival.

Imran, Bushra Bibi sentenced to 17 years in new Toshakhana case https://newsbreaktv.com/imran-bushra-bibi-sentenced/ Sat, 20 Dec 2025 16:07:19 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10731  A special court on Saturday handed down prison terms and fines to former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, after convicting them on corruption-related charges.

As per the ruling issued by Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, Khan has been sentenced to a combined 17 years in prison. This includes 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 409, which deals with criminal breach of trust, and an additional seven years under Section 5/2/47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Bushra Bibi received an identical sentence of 17 years’ imprisonment under the same legal provisions.

Both were formally charged in the case in December last year.

The reference centers on the alleged purchase of a high-value Bulgari jewelry set at a significantly reduced price.

Toshakhana-II case: a timeline of events

Charges were framed against PTI founder Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II case on December 12, 2024. Six hearings were held at NAB before the case was transferred to the FIA following a Supreme Court ruling.

The inquiry began on January 7, 2024, and NAB completed it on July 12, 2024. Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were arrested on July 13, 2024. The reference was filed on August 20, 2024, while a petition challenging the NAB amendments in the case was filed in the Supreme Court on September 6, 2024.

After the Supreme Court’s decision on September 9, the case was transferred to the FIA. A hearing before the duty judge took place on September 10, 2024. Following the restoration of the NAB amendments, the Toshakhana-II case was again shifted from the FIA. The case record was presented on September 11, 2024, and the first appearance before the Special Judge (Central) was held on September 16, 2024.

The first witnesses were presented on September 18, 2024. On October 23, 2024, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to the accused, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, under Section 4-A.

Allegations

It is alleged that Khan and Bushra Bibi retained gifted items—including earrings, a necklace, two rings, and watches—after having their values deliberately assessed at lower rates. NAB conducted an inquiry into four gifts: diamond earrings, a necklace, a ring, and a bracelet. The estimated value of two of these gifts was placed at 380,000 euros, which was slightly over 71 million Pakistani rupees.

The valuation was calculated according to 2021 market rates. These jewelry items were sold by the Bulgari company to the Subhan company. The accused reportedly had two items valued at Rs5.8 million and deposited Rs2.9 million to acquire them. The two items included a bracelet and a ring. The reference in the case was filed on January 7, 2024.

KP CM Sohail Afridi, five MPAs declared proclaimed offenders https://newsbreaktv.com/kp-cm-sohail-afridi-offender/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 09:49:36 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10710

Five members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly, including Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, have been declared as proclaimed offenders in terrorism-related cases, as per an official court notice issued on Wednesday.

Judicial notices issued under court orders list Mina Khan, Amjad Ali, Shafiullah Jan, Iqbal Afridi, and CM Sohail Afridi as proclaimed offenders.

The notices declare that the accused have been marked as absconders in two cases registered by the Counter Terrorism Department.

According to the court’s directive, all five individuals must appear before the court within 30 days. The advertisements warn that failing to comply within the given period will lead to further legal actions.

Sources mention that these proclamations result from an anti-terrorism court’s proceedings, which on December 4 ordered public notices after the accused repeatedly failed to appear. Following the order, Islamabad police published the advertisements to formally notify the suspects and ensure compliance.

The court notices explicitly state that absence beyond the 30-day deadline will result in stricter actions, including property attachment and other legal penalties, as per the criminal procedure laws.

Officials confirmed that the case is still ongoing and that law enforcement agencies will act strictly according to the court’s instructions. Further updates are expected after the deadline expires.

DG ISPR condemns Imran’s ‘anti-army’ remarks, labeling them a ‘national threat’ https://newsbreaktv.com/dg-ispr-condemns-imrans-khan/ Fri, 05 Dec 2025 12:15:30 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10646

DG ISPR’s Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry criticized the imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday, labeling him a “threat to national security” and cautioning against allowing anyone to agitate the public against the armed forces.

He mentioned that Khan’s “anti-army” rhetoric has surpassed political limits, now posing a direct threat to the nation’s security.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi, the DG ISPR described a “creeping national security threat” that the military has deemed necessary to confront.

“Who are you? What message do you want to give? Who do you think you are?” quipped DG ISPR addressing Imran.

He described Imran as a “sick-minded person” and maintained “They [PTI] have a comical obsession with the Pakistan Army. They don’t talk about real issues, and that is their entire politics.”

“We cannot allow them to establish the business of fake news and lies in the country,” insisted Gen Chaudhry, adding that a dangerous narrative is being propagated. “This narrative that the military is the state is false. The military is not the state; the government is supreme.”

DG ISPR highlighted the strategic role of Pakistan’s armed forces in protecting the country from external and internal threats, stressing that attacking the military undermines national security. He said, “It is the armed forces that are standing between the Hindutva mindset in India and their hegemonic design, and the people of Pakistan. It is these armed forces that are standing between the khawarij, terrorists, Fitna al-Khawarij, Fiitna al-Hindustan operating from Afghanistan and the people.”

The state uses Fitna al-Khawarij” as a term for terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while “Fitna al-Hindustan” refers to Indian-backed extremist proxies.

He further added, “Every country has an army. It is a famous saying that there will always be an army in a country, but if it is not yours, it will be your enemy’s. So, the one who attacks their own army and its leadership, is he trying to create space for someone else’s army? What is his design? Why is he trying to do that?”

Continuing his criticism of PTI founder Imran Khan, DG ISPR said that whenever people meet him, he sets aside the law, Constitution, and rules to push a narrative against Pakistan, particularly targeting the armed forces and its leadership.

The DG ISPR stressed that it is for the government, not the military, to decide whether to restrict meetings at Adiala Jail or take action regarding Imran Khan’s social media accounts. He insisted that “they cannot create differences between the Army and the people of Pakistan.”

“Under which law, rules, or constitutional provision can this be allowed? Which politics in Pakistan permits meeting a convict while using it to build a continuous narrative against the country’s armed forces? Which constitutional provision allows this?” Lt Gen Chaudhry asked, referring to PTI’s demand to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, where he has been imprisoned since 2023.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry mentioned the importance of the military’s media wing addressing misinformation, clearing doubts, and explaining the role of the armed forces. He said, “We need to understand the spread of this narrative and its amplification in collaboration with external actors.

He highlighted that the Pakistan Army does not represent a specific ethnicity, language, religion, sect, political ideology, or elite. “We come from all backgrounds, faiths, and political beliefs, but we set these aside when we wear the uniform. We serve and sacrifice for Pakistan and its integrity. These are your armed forces, and we are certain of our character and duty,” he stated.

Addressing social media and dissent regulation, DG ISPR mentioned, “Article 17 of the Constitution allows freedom of expression and political activity, with reasonable restrictions. Nothing going against the state’s security and integrity can be allowed.

He added, “Article 19 permits freedom of expression, but it must not harm Pakistan’s security, integrity, or defense. Is this not stated in the Constitution? Under which law can meeting a convict to create a narrative against the army and its leadership be allowed?”

He also replied to a journalist’s question on the May 9 cases, noting they are being addressed in civil courts and the military isn’t involved in commenting. “If you want answers, direct your questions to Azam Nadeem Tarar or the relevant authority,” he stated.

Aleema petitions for contempt over refusal to meet with Imran Khan. https://newsbreaktv.com/aleema-petition-imran-khan/ Fri, 28 Nov 2025 17:06:10 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10618

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has filed a contempt of court petition after being denied a meeting with her brother.

The petition names the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, the Federal Secretary for Interior, and the Punjab Home Department Secretary as respondents.

Aleema Khan stated in her application to the Islamabad High Court that despite the court’s order dated March 24, she was not allowed to meet Imran Khan, and the order was not implemented.

The petition requests that those responsible for failing to comply with the Islamabad High Court’s directives be punished for contempt of court.

CM Afridi ends sit-in in Rawalpindi

Earlier. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Aleema Khan, and accompanying lawyers were unable to meet the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court.

Chief Minister Afridi said their case was not heard and that they received a message from the IHC Chief Justice stating he could not meet them. Afridi announced that they have decided not to let either the National Assembly or the Senate proceed today.

He added that next Tuesday they would gather both outside the High Court and Adiala Jail. Speaking about governance in the province, he said he remained in contact with his administration and emphasized that unlike Zardari and Sharif, he did not rise through a “parachute,” but worked his way up from the grassroots within the organisation.

The Advocate General of KP, in an informal conversation, confirmed that the IHC Chief Justice had refused to meet the chief minister.

Earlier in Rawalpindi, Afridi ended his sit-in, saying he had exhausted all constitutional and legal avenues. He questioned what option was left for him to meet his party founder.

He added that despite court orders, neither he nor other leaders were allowed to meet the party founder yesterday. He said the founder’s sisters were previously denied a meeting as well, were dragged by their hair on Adiala Road, and humiliated. “All this is being done to break the founder; Bushra Bibi is being targeted,” he alleged.

The KP chief minister said he spent the entire day and night waiting but was still denied permission to meet the PTI founder.

CM Afridi staged a sit-in last night after being denied permission to meet PTI founder Imran Khan.

Authorities dismiss claims about Imran Khan’s health in jail https://newsbreaktv.com/imran-khans-health-in-jail/ Thu, 27 Nov 2025 08:33:46 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10610

Adiala Jail authorities on Thursday termed the rumours regarding the health of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan as baseless.

They said that PTI founder Imran Khan is in Adiala Jail and “hale and hearty”.

“There is no truth to the rumours regarding his health, and his well-being is fully taken care of,” the authorities added.

Earlier on Wednesday, PTI strongly reacted to rumours circulating about the well-being of the former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.

In its response, PTI stated that vicious rumours regarding the founder’s health are being spread by Afghan and Indian media. The party has demanded that the government and the Interior Ministry immediately refute these rumours and has also called for allowing an immediate meeting between the PTI founder and his family.

PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram demanded that the government issue an official statement regarding the PTI founder’s health and safety. He said that those spreading these rumours should be investigated and the facts should be presented before the nation. He added that the nation will not tolerate any ambiguity regarding its leader.

He further said that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the founder’s safety and protect his fundamental rights. He added that every legal and political step will be taken to put an end to these rumours and bring the truth to light.

Sohail Afridi takes oath as KP Chief Minister from Governor Kundi. https://newsbreaktv.com/sohail-afridi-takes-oath-as-kp/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 19:03:17 +0000 https://newsbreaktv.com/?p=10532

Sohail Afridi has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ceremony took place at the Governor House, where the Governor administered the oath to him.

Two days ago, Sohail Afridi was chosen as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a session of the provincial assembly led by Speaker Babar Saleem. He received support from 90 assembly members.

However, the election encountered a legal challenge from JUI-F leader and MPA Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman, who claimed via a petition that the resignation of former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had not been accepted.

The petitioner argued that Afridi’s election was unconstitutional and urged the court to void it, asserting that a new Chief Minister cannot be elected while the previous one’s resignation is not approved.

Yesterday, the Peshawar High Court announced its decision on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s constitutional petition filed under Article 255 about the delay in the oath-taking of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s new Chief Minister.

Chief Justice SM Atiq Shah instructed the governor to administer the oath to the newly elected Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, by 4pm tomorrow.

During the hearing, the court repeatedly questioned the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor’s position on the delay in the oath-taking process.
