Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Saturday that the prices of petrol and diesel had been decreased by Rs9 and Rs7 per litre, respectively, in the fortnightly review.

In a televised address on Saturday, the finance minister said one petroleum product had witnessed an increase while the price of another went down in the international market during the last 15 days.

Following the reduction, petrol will be available at Rs253 per litre while the price of HSD will be Rs253.50 per litre.

Dar said no changes had been made to the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL), which was increased to Rs60 per litre on the demand of International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The new prices will be effective from July 16 (Sunday).

The finance minister said the local currency had appreciated against the US dollar in the last 15 days after Pakistan signed a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary (IMF) on $3 billion Stand-By Arrangement (SBA).

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the authorities concerned to pass on the maximum relief to masses.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Wednesday a reduction of Rs5 per litre in the price of high-speed diesel and Rs8 per litre in the price of petrol.

Following the second consecutive price cut, diesel will now be available at Rs253 per litre, while petrol will be sold at Rs262 per litre.

These prices will remain in effect from June 1 to June 15.
 

The price of light-speed diesel has also been reduced by Rs5 per litre, and it will be sold at Rs147.68 per litre.

The price of petrol in the country has been further increased for the next 15 days.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Relations Shahbaz Gil said that the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 1.71 per liter on the recommendation of OGRA.

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister said that the new prices would be effective from August 1.

Shahbaz Gil said that according to the data of July 26, the price of petrol in 27 countries of the world is lower than that of Pakistan.

He said that according to the data of July 26, the price of petrol per liter in 140 countries is higher than in Pakistan.

He said that the average price of petrol in the world is 1.19 per liter while in Pakistan it is 0.72 per liter.

Shahbaz Gul said that the prices of petroleum products in the world have increased by 47% while in Pakistan it has increased by 11%.
