The Sindh government on Tuesday announced a set of austerity measures to reduce the economic impact of the ongoing regional tensions.

It said schools will observe a spring vacation from March 16 to March 31, and colleges and universities will switch to online classes.

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon told a press conference that no ongoing exams will be postponed.

He also clarified that, contrary to some media reports, government operations will not stop on Fridays; instead, government officials will work from home (WFH) on that day.

“Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday — you have to work. On Friday, you have to work from home,” he said.

The Sindh minister affirmed that the province endorsed all the decisions announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.

“The Sindh government has launched its austerity campaign,” he added.

He declared that the provincial government would reduce the fuel allotted for official vehicles by 50 per cent, which would save around Rs960 million.

The provincial ministers have also decided to forgo their salaries for three months from April to June, Memon added.

He further said that the government will send a reference to the Sindh Assembly speaker, but it was up to the speaker and the lawmakers to decide on any similar measure for MPAs.

Memon said that “unnecessary government expenditure”, such as buying furniture and stationery, will be reduced by 20pc, which he said would save around Rs12 billion.

The senior minister stated there would be a complete ban on the government buying “new vehicles and items”, except where necessary, such as ambulances or law and order vehicles.

“Unnecessary foreign visits” would also be barred, Memon said, highlighting that if an official trip was required, Economy Class will be used and “no one will be allowed to use Business Class”.

Detailing further steps, Memon said “many ministers, including the chief minister, said they wanted to withdraw or curtail their security” so that police vehicles could instead be utilised for the public and extra expenses could be avoided.

He added that the cabinet had “mandated the law minister” to immediately withdraw the security protocol allotted to “many such people who were utilising the Sindh government’s and Sindh Police’s security unnecessarily”.

Memon noted these specifically included former caretaker ministers and “committee members”, remarking that people had “unfortunately made it a status symbol”.

“Security is not being withdrawn from those who have genuine cases,” the senior minister affirmed.

He emphasised, “The cabinet has taken strict action, ordering that all kinds of unnecessary expenditures be halted immediately.”

Memon said no Iftar parties would be held on the government’s expenditure and any official event would not be organised at any five-star hotel but at a government building.

“Chief minister sahib and we have decided together that from now on, no minister will attend any Iftari […] Charity begins from home,” he said.

He further announced that refreshments on government expenses will be prohibited in all government offices for two more months after Ramazan.

The minister also expressed his government’s solidarity with the armed forces, noting the Operation Ghazab lil-Haq underway on the Pak-Afghan border against terrorists.

“When we speak about challenges, it is not your or mine, it is our challenge,” he remarked.

Responding to a journalist’s question, Memon said the CM’s plane “will remain grounded during these days”, also clarifying that the aircraft had been purchased by the previous chief minister.

The minister stressed that the money saved by implementing the austerity measures will be utilised for the “public’s welfare”. He added that the government’s priority was not to let the “aftereffects” of the fuel price hikes impact the public.

انہوں نے کہا کہ ٹرمپ کے بیان کے بعد عالمی سطح پر پیٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمتیں کم ہوئی ہیں، جو حالات ہیں پیٹرول کی قیمتوں میں شاید زیادہ رد و بدل نہ آئے۔

وفاقی وزیر نے مزید کہا کہ مجبوراً پیٹرول کی قیمتوں میں بڑا بوجھ عوام پر ڈالا گیا، بتایا جائے پیٹرول کی قیمت میں اضافہ نہ کرتے تو متبادل راستہ کیا ہے؟

اُن کا کہنا تھا کہ پاکستان توانائی کی ۹۰ فیصد ضرورت امپورٹ سے پورا کرتا ہے، وزیراعظم کہہ چکے ہیں کہ پیٹرول کی قیمت میں مزید اضافہ آیا تو کفایت شعاری کے ذریعے کنٹرول کریں گے۔

علی پرویز ملک نے یہ بھی کہا کہ وفاقی حکومت کو فیصلہ کرنے سے پہلے صوبائی حکومت کو مشاورت کرنا ہوتی ہے، ہم نے تمام صوبائی وزرائے اعلیٰ سے مشاورت کرکے فیصلہ کیا۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ پی ٹی آئی نے ۲۰۲۲ء میں عدم اعتماد کے وقت پیٹرول کی قیمتوں پر سیاست کی، پیٹرول کی قیمت پر سیاست کا پھر ملک کو نقصان اٹھانا پڑا تھا۔

وفاقی وزیر نے مزید کہا کہ ڈیزل کی قیمت میں ۸۰ روپے اضافہ تھا لیوی کم کر کے قیمت کم بڑھائی، ملک میں خلیجی ممالک سے آنے والے تیل کی ریفائنری ہوتی ہے۔

اُن کا کہنا تھا کہ کمرشل طور پر روس کا تیل ہمارے لے زیادہ فائدہ مند نہیں، یہ تیل شاید کمپنی کے لیے مفید ہو عوام کےلیے نہیں ہوگا۔

علی پرویز ملک نے کہا کہ پیٹرول کی ترسیل میں سعودی عرب اور یو اے ای سے ہمیں مڈ مل رہی ہے، گیس کی قیمت میں کوئی اضافہ نہیں کیا گیا۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ پاور سیکٹر گیس نہیں لے رہا تھا، معاہدے تھے تو قطر کی گیس روک نہیں سکتے تھے، ہم نے اپنے پلانٹ بند کرکے قطر کی گیس استعمال کی۔

وفاقی وزیر نے کہا کہ قطر کے ساتھ ۲۰۲۶ تک گیس کے معاہدے ہمارے ہیں، ملک میں کھاد کا وافر ذخیرہ موجود ہے، کھاد سیکٹر کی گیس بند کرکے رمضان میں لوگوں کو گیس فراہم کی گئی۔

اُن کا کہنا تھا کہ ہم نے آئی ایم ایف کے ساتھ شراکت داری اور ذمے داری کے ساتھ استحکام حاصل کیا، اسحاق ڈار کی سربراہی میں کمیٹی کفایت شعاری اقدامات کی نگرانی کرے گی۔

Mojtaba Khamenei, a son of Iran’s late supreme leader, has been named as the Islamic Republic’s next ruler, authorities announced Monday, as Tehran widened its attacks across the Mideast to strike oil and water facilities crucial to its desert sheikdoms.

With Iran’s theocracy under assault by the U.S. and Israel for more than a week, the country’s Assembly of Experts chose as the next supreme leader a secretive, 56-year-old cleric who maintains close ties to the country’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. The Guard has been firing missiles and drones at Israel and Gulf Arab states since the younger Khamenei’s father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed Feb. 28 during the war’s opening salvo.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said the appointment heralded a “new era of dignity and strength” for the nation. “This valuable choice is a manifestation of the will of the Islamic nation to consolidate national unity; a unity that, like a solid barrier, has made the Iranian nation resistant to the conspiracies of the enemies,” he said.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also congratulated the new leader. “We pledge that, in defence of the rights of the great Iranian nation, the advancement of national interests and security, and the realisation of the lofty goals of the Islamic revolution, we shall not falter for a moment,” he wrote.

Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, who has been tasked with steering Iran’s security strategy since the US and Israel launched their all-out offensive on February 28, called for unity around the new supreme leader.

The war has shaken global energy markets, pushing oil prices above $100 a barrel and leading to tighter supplies of natural gas after Qatar turned off its production.

دورانِ سماعت عدالت نے سپرنٹنڈنٹ کراچی واٹر کارپوریشن سے سوال کیا کہ لوگوں کو پانی کیوں نہیں دے رہے؟ درخواست گزار کے گھر تک پانی پہنچائیں۔

کراچی واٹر کارپوریشن کے وکیل نے کہا کہ پرانی لائنیں ہیں، بجلی کی لوڈشیڈنگ بھی ہے۔

جس پر جسٹس عدنان کریم میمن نے کہا کہ تو لائنیں بناؤ، کچھ خرچ عوام پر بھی کریں۔

 سپرنٹنڈنٹ کراچی واٹر کارپوریشن نے عدالت کو بتایا کہ ہمیں پیچھے سے بھی پانی بہت کم مل رہا ہے۔

جسٹس عدنان کریم میمن نے سوال کیا کہ تو پھر ٹینکرز والوں کو پانی کہاں سے ملتا ہے؟ ٹینکرز والے تو پورے کراچی کو پانی پہنچا رہے ہیں، جب ٹینکرز کے ذریعے پانی مل رہا ہے تو لائن کے ذریعے کیوں نہیں دیا جا رہا؟ اس کا مطلب ہے پانی موجود ہے لیکن لائنوں کے ذریعے نہیں دے رہے۔

سپرنٹنڈنٹ کراچی واٹر کارپوریشن نے کہا کہ ٹینکرز والے غیر قانونی ہائیڈرنٹس سے بھی پانی لیتے ہیں۔

عدالت نے کہا کہ قانونی ہو یا غیر قانونی، شہریوں کو پانی گھروں تک ملنا چاہیے، ٹینکر سسٹم بند کرو، لوگوں کو لائنوں کے ذریعے پانی دو، ہم اس درخواست پر سخت فیصلہ کریں گے۔

کراچی کے علاقے سولجر بازار 3 نمبر کی 1 رہائشی عمارت میں گیس لیکیج کے باعث دھماکے سے عمارت کا ایک حصہ گرنے سے ہلاکتوں کی تعداد 16 ہو گئی۔

ریسکیو ذرائع کے مطابق دھماکا سحری کے وقت ہوا، جاں بحق ہونے والے 16 افراد میں 4 بچے اور 6 خواتین بھی شامل ہیں۔

عمارت کے ملبے سے نکال کر 14 زخمیوں کو اسپتال منتقل کر دیا گیا ہے۔

ملبے میں مزید افراد کے موجود ہونے کے خدشات کے باعث ریسکیو آپریشن جاری ہے۔

ڈی جی ریسکیو ون ون ٹو ٹو کے مطابق دھماکا گیس سلنڈر یا گیس کھینچنے والی مشین سے ہوا ہے۔

ڈپٹی کمشنر ایسٹ نصر اللّٰہ عباسی کے مطابق عمارت کے ملبے میں مزید افراد کے دبے ہونے کا خدشہ ہے، دھماکے کی شدت سے عمارت متاثر ہوئی اور زمین بوس ہو گئی۔

ان کا کہنا ہے کہ دھماکے سے تباہ ہونے والی عمارت 2 منزلہ ہے، تنگ گلیوں کی وجہ سے ریسکیو آپریشن میں مشکلات کا سامنا ہے۔

ریسکیو ذرائع کے مطابق عمارت میں سرچنگ کا عمل مکمل ہو گیا جس کے بعد ملبہ ہٹانے کا کام شروع کر دیا گیا ہے۔

علاوہ ازیں ڈی آئی جی ایسٹ ڈاکٹر فرخ لنجار نے میڈیا سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ ابتدائی معلومات کے مطابق دھماکا گیس لیکیج کا ہے، کیمیکل ایگزیمین کے بعد ہی دھماکے کی اصل نوعیت کا تعین ہو سکے گا، واقعے کی تحقیقات کی جائیں گی۔

ان کا کہنا ہے کہ متعلقہ محکمہ بتائے گا کہ عمارت قانونی تھی یا غیر قانونی، تعین کر کے واقعے کے ذمے داران کے خلاف کارروائی کی جائے گی

عالمی مالیاتی ادارے (آئی ایم ایف) کے حکام نے کہا ہے کہ پاکستان کے ساتھ بجلی کے مجوزہ ٹیرف میں رد و بدل پر بات چیت کر رہے ہیں۔
اس حوالے سے آئی ایم ایف حکام نے خبر ایجنسی سے گفتگو کی ہے۔

حکام کا کہنا ہے کہ بات چیت کر رہے ہیں کہ ٹیرف میں رد و بدل کا بوجھ متوسط اور کم آمدنی والے طبقے پر نہ پڑے، مذاکرات میں جائزہ لیں گے کہ مجوزہ ٹیرف ترامیم حکومتی وعدوں سے مطابقت رکھتی ہیں یا نہیں۔

آئی ایم ایف حکام کا کہنا ہے کہ مذاکرات میں مجوزہ ٹیرف ترامیم کے مہنگائی اور معاشی استحکام پر ممکنہ اثرات کا جائزہ لیں گے۔

واضح رہے کہ حکومت نے حال ہی میں چھوٹے گھریلو بجلی صارفین پر 132 ارب روپے کے فکسڈ چارجز عائد کرنے اور سبسڈیز صنعتوں کو منتقل کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے۔

نیپرا نے وزارتِ توانائی کی درخواست منظور کرتے ہوئے بجلی کے صارفین پر فکسڈ چارجز عائد کرنے کی منظوری دے دی تھی۔

فیصلے کے مطابق پروٹیکٹڈ صارفین پر ماہانہ 100 یونٹ تک استعمال پر 200 روپے فکسڈ چارجز لاگو ہوں گے جبکہ 200 یونٹ ماہانہ استعمال کرنے والوں کو 300 روپے ادا کرنا ہوں گے، اسی طرح نان پروٹیکٹڈ صارفین کے لیے بھی مختلف کیٹیگریز مقرر کی گئی ہیں

دھابیجی پمپنگ اسٹیشن پر بجلی کے بریک ڈاؤن کے باعث شہر قائد کو پانی فراہم کرنے والی 2 پائپ لائنیں پریشر کے باعث پھٹیں۔ 72 انچ قطر کی لائن نمبر 2 اور 5 پھٹنے سے کراچی کو پانی کی فراہمی معطل ہوگئی

پائپ لائن پھٹنے سے قریبی آبادیوں میں پانی داخل ہوگیا جس کے باعث زمینی رابطہ منقطع ہوگیا۔

پائپ لائنیں پھٹنے سے کراچی کو یومیہ 80 ملین گیلن پانی کی فراہمی معطل ہوگئی، لانڈھی، شاہ لطیف ٹاؤن، ماڈل کالونی، کورنگی، ملیر، قائد آباد اور گلشن اقبال میں شہریوں کو پانی کی قلت کا سامنا ہے

K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moonis Alvi has resigned from his position, following which the Chairman of the K-Electric Board of Directors has accepted Moonis Alvi’s resignation.

According to sources, K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi resigned from his position on Thursday, after which he sent his resignation to the company’s board of directors.

Sources say that after the final approval of the K-Electric board, the Pakistan Stock Exchange will be officially informed in this regard. Moonis Alvi served K-Electric for 18 years and was the longest-serving CEO of K-Electric.

On the other hand, Mark Skelton, Chairman of the K-Electric Board of Directors, has accepted the resignation of CO Monis Alvi.

According to sources, three names have been shortlisted for the new CO of K Electric. All three shortlisted individuals are from Karachi and have extensive experience in the energy and finance sectors.

According to sources, a meeting of the Board of Directors of K-Electric is expected next week, while the elections for the Board of Directors will be held in Ramadan, however, the new board will appoint a new Chief Executive Officer.

The current board will present its report to the new board after interviews with the shortlisted candidates. The total number of K-Electric board members is 13, but three seats have been vacant for a long time, while the number of board members has been reduced to 9 after the resignation of Moonis Alvi.

Sources say that there is an atmosphere of anxiety at K-Electric’s head office following the CEO’s resignation and senior officers are concerned about the future.

Karachi’s Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has finalised the investigative report on the devastating Gul Plaza fire, which will be submitted to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, which revealed that 79 lives were lost in the tragedy, sources told News media.

The committee, comprising the commissioner and Additional IG, compiled the report, the sources said on Wednesday.

Karachi’s largest fire in more than a decade broke out on January 17 and quickly spread through the sprawling shopping complex, famous for its 1,200 family-owned stores selling wedding clothes, toys, crockery, and other goods.

According to sources, the report details the causes of the fire, actions taken by the fire brigade, rescue operations, and relief efforts. It also incorporates information from victims, eyewitnesses, and rescue officials.

The blaze broke out at 10:15pm on January 17, with the fire brigade informed at 10:26pm. The first fire tender arrived on the scene within 11 minutes, at 10:37pm, while the Deputy Commissioner South reached at 10:30pm and Rescue 1122 personnel arrived at 10:53pm.

Investigators found that the fire originated at a flower shop on the ground floor, caused by a child, and spread rapidly through air-conditioning (AC) ducts to other parts of the building. The tragic incident claimed 79 lives, with the majority of fatalities occurring on the mezzanine floor.

Meanwhile, the search operation of the deadly shopping centre fire culminated after 10 days of arduous rescue and relief efforts, and the scorched shopping centre was sealed on Tuesday.

A first information report (FIR) was later registered at the Nabi Bux Police Station with provisions relating to negligence and carelessness.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said that there were concerns of sabotage or terrorism, but the matter was not clear, and anti-terror provisions would be added in the FIR if there was sufficient evidence.

Sindh CM Shah has also announced plans to rebuild shops on the site within two years, saying the remaining part of Gul Plaza would be demolished.

کراچی کے سرکاری اور نجی اسپتالوں میں کتوں کے کاٹے کے کیسز میں نمایاں اضافہ ریکارڈ کیا گیا ہے۔

ترجمان انڈس اسپتال کے مطابق کراچی کے مختلف اسپتالوں میں رواں سال اب تک کتوں کے کاٹنے کے 3 ہزار 40 کیسز رپورٹ ہو چکے ہیں۔

ترجمان کے مطابق یکم جنوری سے اب تک انڈس اسپتال میں سب سے زیادہ، 1300 سے زائد ڈاگ بائٹ کیسز رپورٹ ہوئے ہیں۔

جناح اسپتال کے ترجمان ڈاکٹر عرفان صدیقی کے مطابق اسپتال میں اسی عرصے کے دوران 700 سے زائد کیسز سامنے آ چکے ہیں۔

اس کے ساتھ سول اسپتال میں رواں سال کے آغاز سے اب تک کتے کے کاٹے کے1 ہزار نئے کیسز رپورٹ ہوئے ہیں۔

اسپتال حکام کے مطابق مریضوں کی بڑی تعداد روزانہ ایمرجنسی میں لائی جا رہی ہے، نجی اسپتالوں میں بھی کتوں کے کاٹنے کے واقعات رپورٹ ہو رہے ہیں، اسٹیڈیم روڈ پر واقع نجی اسپتال میں اب تک 20 کیسز رپورٹ ہوئے ہیں۔

ترجمان کے مطابق متاثرہ افراد کو ابتدائی طبی امداد فراہم کی جاتی ہے، اسی طرح فیڈرل بی ایریا کے ایک نجی اسپتال میں بھی 20 کیسز رپورٹ ہوئے ہیں۔

ڈاکٹر فاروق مامجی کا کہنا ہے کہ ابتدائی علاج کے بعد مریضوں کو سرکاری اسپتال منتقل کر دیا جاتا ہے۔
