Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has fervently asserted that digital terrorism on social media poses a significant threat to the state.
Speaking to the press outside the historic Lahore High Court (LHC), she passionately advocated for stringent regulations, noting that social media platforms operate under rules across the globe.
She poignantly questioned the unchecked operations of social media, where anyone can post anything without any accountability.
The minister argued that social media freedoms are being misused under the guise of free speech.
However, she clarified that social media accounts will now function under stringent regulations while emphasizing that the government does not oppose social media itself.
Bokhari vividly illustrated the misuse of unregulated social media, calling it a platform for digital terrorism that jeopardizes state security.
Drawing a stark comparison, she cited the Capitol Hill attack, where the culprits received seven-year sentences, contrasting it with the lack of accountability in Pakistan.
She announced the government’s plan to offer much-needed relief in electricity bills. Awais Leghari confirmed that the prime minister is personally overseeing the resolution of this critical issue.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is spearheading an initiative to provide free solar panels to consumers using 100 to 200 units of electricity.
For those using between 200 and 500 units, the government will cover 90% of the solar panel expenses to protect these consumers.
