The Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi confirmed that Sheikh Hasina has indeed stepped down.
The reports further reveal that both the Bangladesh Prime Minister and her sister have been relocated from their official residence to a secure location.
It is also mentioned in the report that Sheikh Hasina Wajid attempted to record a speech before she was moved, but she was not allowed to do so.
In a significant development, thousands of people have reportedly stormed the official residence of Prime Minister Hasina Wajid.
Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff, Waqar-ul-Zaman, is expected to speak shortly and address the nation at 3 pm local time, which will be 2 pm according to Pakistan time.
The report cites a Bangladeshi military official who mentioned that the army chief is currently in discussions with various stakeholders about the current situation in the country.
It’s noteworthy that the death toll from the month-long protests against the quota system has tragically reached 300.
An indefinite curfew has been imposed across the nation, railway services have been suspended indefinitely, and garment factories have shut down.
During the recent wave of protests, the government has repeatedly cut off high-speed internet services, and social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp have been suspended as well.
