Anti-Corruption Punjab gives clean chit to former Special Assistant to PM Zulfi Bukhari and Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan in Rawalpindi Ring Road scandal.
Meanwhile, former commissioner Rawalpindi Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood Orland Acquisition Commissioner Wasim Tabish has been arrested. Sources said that NAB will now investigate the housing societies related to the Ring Road project.
The investigation report of the road scandal has been submitted to Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to the report, the Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab scrutinized 21,000 pages and recorded the statements of 100 persons. The investigation revealed that the alignment of the ring road and the award has been proved to be illegal.
No approval has been sought from the Provincial Development Board to change the alignment of Ring Road. The report said that Anti-Corruption Punjab has registered a case against the project deputy director and other concerned.The claim of taking instructions has also been proved wrong.
According to report,The project director has proposed 5 new interchanges to benefit the housing societies. The plan violates the directives of the Prime Minister. The cost of the project has been increased by Rs 10 billion by converting it to PC-1. DG Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab Muhammad Gohar Nafees told media that Rs 2.60 billion was spent without government approval. Housing societies were deliberately benefited.
Deliberately new interchanges were added to the project, opening the way for entry of local traffic and benefiting certain elements. Land Acquisition Officer Wasim Tabish bought 12 properties worth Rs 60 million. Muhammad Mehmood informed Prime Minister Imran Khan about the wrong details. Gohar Nafees further said that the matter of looting of people by housing society and involvement of political personalities would be sent to NAB and big crocodiles will be also exposed.
