PPP CEC suggest to contest Senate polls : Bilawal Bhutto
The top leadership of PPP has supported the idea of contesting the upcoming Senate elections against the ruling PTI instead of stepping down from the legislative assemblies, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said.
He was addressing a media following the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held in Karachi on Tuesday to discuss four-point agenda, including the en masse resignation of lawmakers from the upper and lower house of parliament on the call of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – the alliance of 11 opposition parties.
Bilawal said that his party leadership believed that the Imran Khan-led government should be challenged at all forums. “We believe that opposition parties can perform better if they jointly contest the Senate elections against the PTI.”
He added: “We will present these suggestions to the PDM leaders in the upcoming meeting and will decide future course of action with consensus.”
However, Bilawal said that the PPP leadership has endorsed the PDM’s decision of submitting resignations of lawmakers to the respective party chiefs by December 31.
