India’s legendary athlete Milkha Singh dies of Covid after wife’s corona death

India on Saturday mourned the loss of track legend Milkha Singh, who overcame childhood tragedy to seek Olympic glory, after he died aged 91 following a long battle with Covid-19.

His death, due to Covid-19 complications, comes days after his wife’s, former India volleyball captain Nirmal Kaur. Soon after the news of his death went viral, many took to social media to pay tribute. Shoaib Malik mourned the loss of Singh. “The legendary sprinter Milkha Singh (Flying Sikh) departs at age 91. Your legacy will fly high, always,” the cricketer penned. “Our heartfelt condolences to his family in this hard time.”

Indian actor Farhan Akhtar is shocked by the death of India’s legendary athlete, Milkha Singh.

Taking to his Twitter on Friday, the actor, who played the lead in Singh’s biopic, praised the courage, passion, and strength.

“Dearest Milkha ji, A part of me is still refusing to accept that you are no more. Maybe it’s the stubborn side I inherited from you.. the side that when it sets it’s mind on something, just never gives up. And the truth is that you will always be alive. Because you were more than a large hearted, loving, warm, down to earth man,” he wrote.
