Gilani’s request related to Chairman Senate election rejected by IHC
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected the petition of Yousuf Raza Gilani for the post of Chairman Senate.
The court dismissed the petition as inadmissible.Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah issued a written order.The written order said that the court expects from elected representatives to maintain the dignity and sovereignty of the parliament and the political leadership to resolve disputes using the powers and privileges conferred by the constitution.
According to the petitioner, the PDM has a majority for the chairmanship of the Senate. If it has a majority, the PDM can not only remove the chairman of the Senate but also make Gilani chairman.
The written decision said that using this method by the members of the Senate would enhance the dignity and sovereignty of the parliament, the use of the constitutional method would make it clear that these seven senators had voted for you.
It is written in decision that this court is showing restraint under Article 69 of the Constitution regarding the privileges of Parliament.
