The eagerly anticipated film ‘Abir Gulaal,’ showcasing the talents of Vaani Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, has found itself swirling in controversy. The regional political force, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), has challenged the filmmakers to proceed with its release.
The crux of the dispute is the inclusion of Fawad Khan, which MNS claims contradicts the agreement made in a significant meeting between the producers’ guild, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and their leader Raj Thackeray back in 2016.
Ameya Khopkar, the influential head of the MNS Chitrapat wing, addressed the press strongly, declaring that they would block the film’s release in theaters. With firm resolve, he stated, “We have been staunchly opposing this film, as well as any Pakistani artists and films, and we will persist in our endeavors. No film with Pakistani artists will be released here. There’s simply no need for its release. I urge you, show the bravery to proceed with its launch. I dare you to release it. Back in 2016, we had a significant dialogue with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Raj Thackeray was present too.”
